The reason for that, according to what God says in the Bible, is that a marriage is supposed to point to something extraordinary, where the husband reminds the wife of the love of Jesus, and the wife reminds the husband of the love of the Church. This means that we are happy to provide as much help as we can for any couple who are thinking about getting married in our parish. We are always very pleased when a couple comes along wanting to be married in their parish church. We work hard to make the ceremony memorable for them, treating the event and the nature of their new commitment very seriously. Normally, at least one person of the couple should reside in the parish or be listed on its electoral roll for a marriage to take place. Special arrangements can sometimes be made for a couple who do not live here, but have strong family links with the church and parish. Our longing is both for a wonderful wedding and for a memorable and life-changing marriage, with the love of Jesus at the centre. For more helpful information about how the church can help and support a couple not only before and during the wedding, but also afterwards, you may wish to visit the Church of England Wedding site. |

A wedding is a wonderful thing - so we will do all that we can to make the wedding day as special as it can be - but a marriage is even better!
