The parish ministry team aims to provide everyone with appropriate support at those times when we are most in need of God's love.

In the case of children, it is true that many parents long to give their child the best start in life and we are delighted to be able to help with that. We are very happy to discuss providing a special service to mark the birth of a child - whether a service of dedication (for parents who could not yet call themselves followers of Jesus) or baptism (for those who could).
In order to help anyone considering baptism, be they parents of children or individuals making decisions on their own behalf, to decide which option to take, we invite you to meeting with a member of the clergy team at mutually convenient times. This meeting will give the basic information about the baptismal promises. You are then invited to a group session with the extended ministry team and other candidates for baptism, to explore in more depth the significance of your decision and to help you plan for your future. This way we believe that, by working together, we offer each candidate the best possible start to their future life with Christ.
It is lovely to be able to welcome new members to Christ's family by conducting the baptism during the main 10:30 Sunday morning family service. However personal circumstances may mean that you prefer to choose a specially arranged service on a Sunday. All those newly baptised and their families and friends are specifically invited to attend a welcoming service soon after their baptism.

Confirmation is a service for young people and adults who want to take the next step of commitment in their Christian lives. The service is often performed at the Cathedral during which the Bishop lays his hands on the candidates.

A wedding is a wonderful thing - so we will do all that we can to make the wedding day as special as it can be - but a marriage is even better!
The reason for that, according to what God says in the Bible, is that a marriage is supposed to point to something extraordinary, where the husband reminds the wife of the love of Jesus, and the wife reminds the husband of the love of the Church. This means that we are happy to provide as much help as we can for any couple who are thinking about getting married in our parish.
We are always very pleased when a couple comes along wanting to be married in their parish church. We work hard to make the ceremony memorable for them, treating the event and the nature of their new commitment very seriously.
Normally, at least one person of the couple should reside in the parish or be listed on its electoral roll for a marriage to take place. Special arrangements can sometimes be made for a couple who do not live here, but have strong family links with the church and parish.
Our longing is both for a wonderful wedding and for a memorable and life-changing marriage, with the love of Jesus at the centre. For more helpful information about how the church can help and support a couple not only before and during the wedding, but also afterwards, you may wish to visit the Church of England Wedding site. |

When the Lord Jesus stood outside the tomb in which his friend, Lazarus, was laid, he wept. This shows us that Jesus understands how much it hurts when someone you love dies. Our privilege as a Church is to do all we can to help those who are bereaved to find in Jesus all the comfort, strength and help you will ever need.
The way in which we do this is by a member of our ministry team offering to visit the family to discuss both the funeral service itself and any care that is desired after that.
We will then provide a funeral service either in the parish church or at the crematorium, which will give thanks for the life of the person who has died, and seek to fix our eyes on the God who knows and understands suffering - and who is real and able to help us in our time of need.
