The garden next to the church is a place set aside for the interment of ashes, following a funeral service and cremation. It is available to any person who wants a local interment in a Christian context.
The garden was consecrated in November 2008 by Bishop Tim, Bishop of Leicester. The garden contains a bench seat and a memorial stone and cross. This has been possible through the generosity of donations in memory of two people of the local community and from Leicester Forest East Parish Council. A Book of Remembrance has been donated by Anstey and District Funeral Directors and placed in St. Andrew's Church. Records of interments are entered in the book, allowing the church to remember and pray for bereaved families on the anniversaries of deaths.
Following normal practice for such gardens, ashes are interred loose, in a small hole about a foot square excavated for the purpose, and then the soil and turf are replaced. The garden will thus remain neat and unmarked. It will also always be available and will never be full.
If anyone has any questions about the use of the Garden, or how ashes can be interred, please contact us.
